Virginie Peyre

Virginie Peyre

Virginie Peyre, a contemplative and solitary person, is a woman of wonder who refuses to treat herself. Rural and deeply rooted in her Mont Ventoux home landscapes of Southern France Alps, she thrives on beauty.

Nature fills her and creation has become her way of being in the world. Since her very early years, she has developed a taste for crafts, DIY, drawing and writing.

Professionally, after studying textile design at university, she created printed fabric, embroidered for haute-couture, and ventured into graphic design and illustration: a real jack-of-all-trades! At the same time, she has been exhibiting her creations and taking part in textile art competitions since the 1980s.

Virginie Peyre has many strings to her bow, but textiles are her favorite playground, the one where she finds the greatest freedom. Her ever-increasing love of life overflows her and is joyfully expressed in her work.

Love Love Love, Joy Light Peace

Virginie Peyre was 22 and finishing her studies at the Arts Appliqués Duperré in Paris when she conceived the Kimono, which revealed her fascination with faces across time and culture.

Her first wall hanging, “Abracadabra”, was born after a year of stifling work as en employee: it was for her like a child’s first breath at birth.

After quitting this job she went through some kind of resurrection and four other pieces followed, allowing her to catch her breath. Then she plunged into the enriching experience of motherhood, which limited her time for creation, although this period was rich in new experiences. In 2016, “Gratitude” followed a dozen works that she was lucky enough to sell. Feeling at home as an artist and a mother, she was tired but fulfilled. Following the death of a dear friend, she felt the need to build a tomb in her honor to spend a little more time with her.

“Voluptés” recounts her discovery of Biodanza (a personal development method based on bodily expression), which transformed her relationship with her own body and opened the gates to spirituality.

“Divin vivant” expresses the closeness she feels with the plant world and her compassion for suffering plants. “Dame nature” marks a decisive turning point when she chose to fully embrace her identity as an artist without curbing her creativity.

New venue: discover the Saint-Blaise Chapel!

St Blaise ChapelBuilt in the 11th century, this historical jewel has recently been renovated to host worship services and, exceptionally, exhibitions.

Access to the Saint-Blaise Chapel:
You can get there on foot from the main Exhibition venue (Salle des Fêtes) in Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines, by bike along the cycle path linking Sainte-Marie and Sainte-Croix, or by car (parking is very limited in front of the building, so we recommend you park in Sainte-Croix town center and get to the exhibition on foot).
