Carmen Netto

Carmen Netto is passionate about art. She began with illustration and graphic design, but it was in textile art that she found a way to express herself.

Whether obvious or subtle, geometric shapes have always been present in her work, and their study is interesting in her works.

Freedom in the use of color, improvisation and transparency are her preferred avenues. The reuse of fabrics “with a history, with a past” is a constant, often being the starting point of the work.

In 1998, she conceived and organized the first quilt and patchwork event in Brazil and Latin America, which has since been held annually under the name Festival Quilt Brasil.

Fabrics with a History

The aim of this exhibition “Fabrics with a History” is to work with fabrics that already have a memory imprinted in their fibers, fabrics that have a past and stories to tell.

There are garments, bath and tablecloths, and cream-colored sheets from family and friends, collected and preserved over a lifetime.

The artist offers to let the material itself tell its story through its wear, marks and stains.

The little red spots are there to remind us that our blood, our life, is also charged with our ancestors’ past.
