Lauren Austin is an African-American artist with over 30 years of experience in creating artistic quilts. She uses woodblock printing and lithographic impressions, fabric dyeing, and painting to create portraits of the life and work of African-Americans. Lauren employs color, 3D sewn sculptural effects, and beaded and threaded sketches and tableaux to bring her works to life.Lauren’s work is exhibited in private and public collections in the United States and abroad. Her work explores the relationship between Black people and the natural world, the history of Black people, and international human rights.Before working full-time in art, Lauren was an American diplomat, a civil rights lawyer, and a teacher of judicial writing. Lauren has completed collaborative art projects with various artists in the United States, the Bahamas, Kenya, and China. Lauren lives in Maitland, Florida.
