Hilde Hoogwaerts started creating quilts in 1989 while living in Atlanta, USA.She lived there for three years before moving to eight other countries around the world, then returning to her home country, the Netherlands, in 2018.Her last mission abroad was in Ghana, where she challenged herself to use only local African textiles in her works.Hilde mostly uses her sewing machine to create her quilts. Smaller works are hand-made. She uses traditional patterns as well as some of her own creation. Her work was featured at « Patchwork en Quiltdagen » in Rijswijk, the Netherlands, in 2019, and at the Birmingham quilt festival, also in 2019. One of her Kaleidoscope patterns appeared in the 150th Quiltmania. In 2023, some of her works will be exhibited at Pour l’amour du fil in Nantes, France, and one of her quilts has been shortlisted for the Quilt National ’23 in Ohio, USA.
