Debra Milkovich is a quilt maker, mother of four daughters, soldier’s wife, and collector of unusual vintage treasures. From a very young age, she dreamed of becoming an artist, but chose to pursue a safer path by obtaining a doctorate in pharmacy. Debra created her first quilt in 2017 with encouragement from her friend, Emi. For her second quilt, she participated in the first “Block of the Month” program at the National Quilt Museum. This event allowed participants to learn many techniques while giving them great artistic freedom. Her quilt was among the 11 selected to be exhibited at the museum in 2019. This experience set her on the path to deeply explore the world of artistic quilts without having a preconceived idea of what a quilt should or should not be. In 2020, her mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness, so she channeled her fears, anxieties, and sadness into her quilts. During this time, Debra created her first full quilt, “Shark Bite,” which won first place in the “Floral & Vine Fabric Challenge” at QuiltCon Together in 2021. This quilt also won the “Best of Show” award at the Grace Quilting Company Fall Festival in 2022.
