Aliyah Bonnette is a multidisciplinary artist working in Raleigh, North Carolina. She employs various methods and creates painted quilts (mixed media). Using powerful and abstract shapes in the background, she juxtaposes realistic silhouettes as a way to play with the natural comfort of the quilt and the inherent discomfort of her themes. Her work primarily focuses on the experience of Black women in the United States and draws inspiration from various aspects of the African American diaspora as well as her own experiences as a Black woman in the U.S. She is a self-taught artist but holds a degree in painting and another in textiles, which has allowed her to further explore this medium and develop her expertise. Guided tour: every day at 9:30 AM (EN).
