After World War II, the “Anabaptist Mennonites” of France realized the importance of remembering their past. This is when the French Association of Anabaptist Mennonite History (AFHAM) was created on June 4, 1979, in the Vosges region. It is managed by historians, sociologists, theologians, and other enthusiasts of the original history of this movement. AFHAM has set itself the following goals: To inventory places of worship, farms, and cemeteries To collect manuscripts, printed works, engravings, photos, and genealogical studies in archives To address the legal status of cemeteries and other material traces with a view to their maintenance and conservation To disseminate research results and any documents that can raise awareness of this heritage among contemporaries, Mennonites in general, and members of the association in particular.
